Steger is a showman. Some people probably chide him for that. But there is nothing wrong with his way of presenting himself to the audience, with his way of playing the flute; on the contrary: he is visibly pleased that the repertoire, which he – together with David Whelton – has put together especially for this occasion, fits so well, sounds so excellent and is so well received. “In the middle of it instead of just being there”, you could say. Already the first half with a successful combination of “O virgo splendens” (1399, Anonymous), Sinfonias by Marco Uccelini (1603-1680) and Salomone Rossi (1570-1630) demonstrated the musicians’ joy in playing.
