Andrea Marcon Direction
La Cetra Barockorchester Basel
Press commentary
No, there is no sparing of energy here: Marcon heats up his orchestra La Cetra from Basel. Even in the short pauses between the chordal columns of the overture to Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, there is a crackle in the air. And the tension remains with the listener. Nowhere does Marcon allow even a spark to leave the vibrating arc of tension. Such wide arcs dominate Marcon’s interpretation of almost all Mozart overtures.

With the “Mozart Ouvertures”, the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra Basel now presents a calling card with which it recommends itself internationally in the circle of competent historical ensembles. Andrea Marcon leads the musicians with his characteristic presence and clarity through a cosmos of epochal transitions, which he develops using the example of a particularly gifted composer.

La Cetra plays delicately, phrases and articulates carefully, there is a relaxed basic attitude.
