Mozartfest Würzburg, concert on 16 June 2018, Residenz
The evening with the French soprano Patricia Petibon and the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel under the inspiring Andrea Marcon was also a star hour. … In between was the Symphony in C minor by Mozart’s contemporary Joseph Martin Kraus, somehow still old-fashioned, seemingly fateful, especially due to the rather strikingly dark, energetic sound of the historically informed playing style of the extremely exciting orchestra performing on “old” instruments. Good-humoured, rousing, with an ironic undertone, he succeeded in opening with Mozart’s “Figaro” overture. But then the red-haired singer with her bright, girlishly clear, always round voice, which could brilliantly widen her radiant high notes, immediately captivated everyone with the melancholically coloured cavatina of Barbarina. … After the enthusiastic applause, there had to be an encore; what could be more fitting than Handel’s inwardly moving “Lascia ch’io piangia”!
