The Basel chorus is splendid, responding to Andrea Marcon’s direction with bright-eyed, alert singing; their evident enjoyment of the robust hunting chorus in Part 2 is thoroughly infectious. Finally, plaudits for the outstanding playing of La Cetra and Marcon’s overall direction, which carries all before it with zest, spirit and, where appropriate, graceful elegance. A splendid achievement that brings this charming work to engaging life.
