Patricia Petibon Soprano
Andrea Marcon Direction
La Cetra Barockorchester Basel

The new album by the “red-haired beauty” (FAZ) is a musical journey from the old to the new world: music from the time of the great explorers. On her concept album, Petibon draws a fascinating sound portrait of this era through an exciting as well as surprising compilation with arias by Rameau, Charpentier, Handel and Purcell, which express the composers’ fascination with the newly discovered landscapes, as well as colourful South American folk songs.

Press commentary

At the same time, she also understands the conquest of new worlds in a figurative sense when she mixes in illyrical pieces by Purcell or Handel. The excellent original sound ensemble La Cetra Barockorchester Basel under Andrea Marcon is supplemented, at least for the former category, by “exotic instruments” such as a South American harp and, like Petibon, leaves wide scope for virtuoso improvisation.

ö24 Kultur, October 2012

In Petibon’s interpretation, European melodies and South American rhythms fuse together. This kind of baroque crossover is not entirely new, but is very effectively staged here together with the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra Basel under Andrea Marcon.

Jan Ritterstaedt, NDR Kultur, October 2012

This acoustic journey is held together on the one hand by Patricia Petibon’s enchantingly clear and stirring soprano, but also by the soloists, who harmonise perfectly under Andrea Marcon’s direction, and the ensemble members of the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel and the La Cetra Vokalensemble.

KlassikAkzente, September 2012

Petibon is congenially accompanied by the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel and conductor Andrea Marcon.
